After running my second marathon, the Bob Potts Marathon in York, PA, (with the Baltimore Marathon already under my belt), I immediately went home and decided that I was going to run 50 marathons in 50 states. Easy peasy, no problem, right? Despite the fact that following both of my marathons I briefly wanted to give up running forever, I realized that running the 26.2 mile distance was the most rewarding thing I had ever done in my life, was the most fun I’d had running any distance, and would keep me motivated at all times to run and be healthy. PLUS, think of all the cool places I’d be able to see around the country!
Unfortunately, this plan was slightly derailed in April 2016 when I had to forego my entry into Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh, my North Carolina race, due to sesamoiditis in both feet (and later, peroneal tendon issues). I managed to get into the New York City Marathon for November 2016, but over time my tendon had atrophied, and my knees had been causing me pain from what I can only assume is weakened muscles and unsupportive tendons. So I also had to forego my entry into NYC.
The plan is now to run either a marathon OR a half marathon in all 50 states for now, since I am not the young, spry girl I used to be. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. Hoping my prime is yet to come!
